Sweetwaters
January 8, 2008With visions of ripe fruit and silky smooth fondue dancing in our heads, my husband and I visited Sweetwaters for dinner a few days before Christmas. We were happy to find that with its top-notch service and superb new American fare, this restaurant did not disappoint.
The warm atmosphere created by chic mahogany furniture and clay-colored walls was enhanced by festive white Christmas lights and evergreen garland in the bar/lounge area and main dining room.
Since we hadn’t made a reservation and the main dining room was fully booked at 7 p.m. on a Saturday evening, we were immediately ushered to a very comfortable table in the restaurant’s low-key bar/lounge area. I would be remiss if I did not remark on the impeccable service our waiter Raymond provided. He was friendly yet unobtrusive and the attention he provided from the moment we were seated significantly added to our dining experience.
To start, we chose the colossal shrimp stuffed with Swiss cheese and wrapped in bacon served with a mild Dijon sauce, and the mushrooms overstuffed with shrimp and crabmeat. At first I was hesitant to agree to the stuffed shrimp because of the unexpected addition of Swiss cheese, but I’m glad we trusted our waiter’s recommendation as we were delighted by this fresh, tender, and savory appetizer. The overstuffed mushrooms were also delectable.
Roe’s Arugula Chevre salad with marinated skirt steak, which I selected for my main course, was remarkable. This dish consisted of Arugula tossed in a fat free lemon herb dressing, dried cranberries, toasted walnuts, Belgium endive, plum tomatoes and crumbled goat cheese topped off by the house’s tender marinated skirt steak. My husband’s sesame seared Tuna entrée was expertly prepared as well, with its black and white sesame encrusted pan seared tuna served with ginger and wasabi.
With just enough room for dessert, we didn’t hesitate to order the restaurant’s signature chocolate fondue for two. Accompanied by fresh and juicy strawberries, pineapples, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, bananas, rice crispy treats, apple crisps, sugar wafers, and pretzels, it was like a little piece of heaven.
I highly recommend Sweetwaters for its intensely good menu offerings, flawless service, and comfortably stylish environment. A complete dinner can be enjoyed for $40-60 per person, and the restaurant also offers traditional and express lunch menus.
